Is the current craze of these ubiquitous social networking sites becoming too much to handle? Some say yes, others might disagree. Social networking was created to connect friends and family together. Now, many predators use sites such as Facebook or Myspace to find their prey. This is the source of what parents are stressing about to their children. While many who use social media are enjoying meeting new people, they are also becoming distant from contact with real people and they are involved in a very surprising and dangerous environment. Around 2005, Myspace and Facebook were popping up on many computer screens; they allowed people to create a profile and share everything about themselves to the whole world. But sometimes students can get distracted from their work and start getting off topic. Some start off talking about English; however, they could digress and start gossiping. This is a problem for some because there are so many people online to talk to, it is very tempting for them. One problem of social networking is that individuals are becoming distant from real friends and family. Talking online is creating nonexistent feelings and they lose touch with the real world. According to the SIQSS, the craze of socializing online is causing people to recluse themselves and spend less time interacting with real human beings. Norman Nile, a scientist atStanford University says this about social networking: â€Å"The more hours people use the internet, the less time they spend with human beings.† In a survey that the SIQSS had conveyed, many had said that they had spent less time watching television and reading the newspaper ( Sell 126-127).
